Way back in high school, my friend B and I wanted to write a song. Now, we didn’t have many instruments handy besides maybe a cruddy little Casio keyboard, but we wanted this song to rock so that wasn’t much good. What we ended up doing was taping little parts from other albums onto a cassette in the order that we wanted them, and using that for our music. We used quite liberal samples from Metallica’s …And Justice For All and Megadeth’s Rust In Peace (as I recall, the Lucretia into cackle did nicely as a bridge).
Anyways, we went ahead and created a stupid little song without picking up an instrument. It, as you may already expect, wasn’t really worth a good damn, but it kept us busy and out of trouble for an afternoon. We never intended for anyone to hear it, we just wanted to mess around.
Which brings me to my point. If certain people in the movie industry had similar self-control, they would have never released this.
