The misfit sells out?

Got to thinking that I might stick some Google text ads in my movie reviews. I know, I feel kinda sleazy about it too, but I think — if done correctly — it should work out fine.

What I’m planning is instead of having the genre sections be complete lists of all of the films by genre with their full reviews listed, I’ll put zebra tables there, making visitors click on the movie they want to see the review for. The page with the solo full review, and only that page, will have the ads. They will be at the bottom, just before my credits div. Hopefully that’ll be less obtrusive.

The “Latest Review” sections will be unchanged, and free of adverts. That way, if you keep up with the site (which I hope you’ll do), the only time you’ll have to see an advert is if you go back through the archives to look up an older entry. I think that balances out nicely, and with any luck, keeps people visiting more frequently.

Of course, it all depends on whether Google things my site is “ad worthy”. I sent in my application to them yesterday. Once I hear, I’ll know for sure, but I want to make zebra tables out of the genre pages anyways, so no harm, no foul.

You’ll notice that Haloscan commenting is back with us. I really didn’t like the Blogger comment system, so this will remain until it’s abused, or I get sick of it, or what the hell ever. Go ahead and use it to let me know what you think of my little money grubbin’ scheme, or whatever else comes to mind.
