Taunton the Beautiful

Will it ever be cleaned up?

I took this picture a couple of weeks ago. It’s of the remains of a building that sits on the edge of the Taunton Green, which I pass on my daily commute. The building burned down a little while ago, and since then, the remains have… well, remained.

A gate was installed around it the week afterward, but as you can see from the picture, a steel I-beam has settled on top of half of it, wrecking that part of the fence. The town has since protected the passing traffic with sturdy yellow police caution tape.

Since a bit of time has passed since the fire, I’ve been wondering exactly when the town was going to get off of its bankrupt butt and clean it up. Apparently, I’m not the only one.

This morning, there was a handwritten sign attached to the fence (near that traffic cone) that read:

       NEW TOWN DUMP!
       LEAVE TRASH HERE!

Next to the sign was placed an old mattress and a couple of bags of trash. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a camera with me, and had to drive on. Even worse, when I drove back home this afternoon, the sign was gone, as were the mattress and bags.

Oh well, it didn’t last long, but I salute you, random garbage protester. Thanks for putting the exclamation point on my thought.
