Free iPods?

Yeah, right. Wired says it’s legit, so I signed up. Took the Blockbuster Netflix-esque offer, signed up and quit once confirmed. So far, it’s cost me nothing, and gave them an email address I don’t use all that much.

Do I want an iPod? Not really. Just thought it would be an interesting experiment. They didn’t ask for a phone number, and don’t have my CC numbers either, so I’m not nervous. I’m certainly not one to knowingly increase the amount of crap that comes by me on purpose, but so far, so good.

The downside? They don’t ship anything until you’ve managed to sign five other people up. Yeah. It’s a method called “viral marketing”, where they just have to sit back and get people signed up to things, only sending out iPods to those who end up doing more work for them. Interesting concept, especially seeing how many are signing up. More power to ‘em.

If you wanna whore yourself out too try it yourself, go here and read this site’s directions. It’ll make it easier on you than going in blind.1

Good luck, should you be so brave and/or foolish. ;^)

I really don’t think anything will come of it for me, but I know some of you folks out there are far more industrious and cunning than I’ll ever be.

Man, I sure do have a lot of time on my hands while waiting for these updates to finish…
