TiVo Shakeup

Looks like things are changing for TiVo, and it doesn’t look like it’s in the right direction.

DirecTV is dropping them later in the year for a new 100 hour DVR box without the TiVo name, and Tivo has gone and pulled out of the Comcast deal in the meantime.

I like my DVR, but in the end, I don’t really care what brand name is on it. I can only hope that this new DirecTV model will have more of the home media options, or at least activate the USB ports for networking so I don’t have to fight with my VoIP phone anymore in order to get the daily calls in successfully. Otherwise, I’ll stick with what I have.

In other news, it’s not enough that EA bought the NFL license, now they’ve gone and locked down the ESPN name for 15 years. Boycott continues with renewed vigor.

Today is damn cold. It was only 6 degrees when I left for work this morning, and the heat is still broken on my floor in the office. Lovely.
