A Short Recovery Period

As forecasted, I did end up spending Thursday home from work. More accurately, I spent the majority of the day unconscious in bed, as I was almost completely wiped out from my cold.

In my more lucid moments, I got to watch a few movies, which was nice. Saw the European cut of Romero’s Dawn of the Dead as well as some of the supplimental documentaries. For some reason, I felt that I could relate with the hoardes of living dead just that much more. Later in the day, when I was more up and about, I took in Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and today’s review subject, Broken Flowers.

I’m back in the office today, although I don’t feel all that much better. There are certain times of the year when it’s not such a bad thing to take two days off sick before a three-day weekend, and February is not one of them. My workflow was backed up plenty from just one, thankyouverymuch.

Got a mailer inviting me back to the Columbia House DVD Club, and I indeed will take part in it again. The way they got me this time was offering to suspend the shipping/handling charges on the intro shipment. As everyone knows, that’s how they get you.

Coming soon to a shelf near me:

  • The Devil’s Rejects
Because one way or another, I will see that “making of” documentary, Netflix be damned!
  • The Godfather
I love the fact that you no longer have to buy the whole trilogy if you want these movies on DVD. There’s no way I’m ever watching Part III again. Ever.
  • Goodfellas
Put off buying this one forever because the original release was a “flipper”, with half of the movie on each side of the disc.
  • Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
    Chan-Wook Park is good stuff.
  • Supersize Me
I’ve seen this over a dozen times, and I’ll see it a dozen more.
  • Roger & Me
Ahh, Michael Moore. Let’s all try to forget Fahrenheit and go back to your roots, shall we?
  • Zombie
Worth all the bad acting for the underwater shark vs. zombie scene alone.
