Travelin’

Buying tickets for flights is such a hassle. They’re either too expensive, or there’s far too much layover time, and nothing ruins a trip more than excessive amounts of layover. Orbitz seems quite complete, showing layover times and prices for all sorts of flight combinations, but it is still a very daunting task.

Laura and I are planning a trip for after tax season ends. I figure I’ll give myself a week after the 15th to tidy up things at the office, do backups, etc. and then we can take a week out in the Southwest.

Most of the trip has been thought out… well enough. We plan on flying out to Phoenix, and hanging out with my cousin(s) for a bit before heading out to see the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, neither of which Laura has ever seen before.

But the end of the trip is still very much up in the air. Do we leave straight from Vegas, or do we continue West to the Pacific coast? Laura has a friend in San Francisco, or we could rush through Hollywood. (Will, would you be available for dinner?)

More importantly than that, is the question of time. Will we have enough to do all of this in a week without feeling rushed and chained to a tight schedule?

At heart, we’re home bodies. We don’t take trips often, so we want to get in as much as we can. But we also must remember that it’s a vacation, and be sure to stop and smell the… cacti.

To add to all of that, I recently found out that I have another quick jaunt to Vegas again later in the year (June 4-6) for work. When it rains, it pours.

Travel suggestions welcome.

Why don’t you… wait for it….. go for a bike ride!

Bet you didn’t see that coming.

That does sound like a lot for one week, though. You’re talking western distances, not New England distances.

Bike rides might be a nice little afternoon getaway, but they’re no vacation. (You psychopath, you.)

Two travel days, two days in AZ, one at the Canyon and one at Vegas makes six days. That’s probably enough, and easily doable with a rental car. But, since we’ll be out there, we want to consider all of the possibilites, although realistically, that will probably be it. Saturday to Thursday.
