I was reading a link on Ars about 80’s tie-in gaming, and was reminded by the comments about the Raiders of the Lost Ark game for the Atari 2600. Man, what a wacky, crazy game that was. The only things both wackier and crazier than the game were my father and me, who were determined to finish the damned thing.
I mean, look at those screenshots. It’s a miracle we were able to figure anything out at all, let alone discover the lost Ark. Good times.
Looking for more screenshots on Google Images, I came across a bunch of shots of another favorite 2600 game, Star Raiders. That crazy touchpad was all the immersion I needed to convince myself that I totally was a starship pilot. But for kick-ass graphics in space, it was all about the Starmaster. Activision rocked my socks.
I gotta stop looking at this stuff. Before you know it, I’ll have eBayed myself a 2600. (Hell, if it came with Warlords and some paddles it might be wor… STOP IT!)
Edit: Oh, cmon. This isn’t fair. Now they’re just teasing me.
