Late Saturday night, I was up watching TV, switching between the Yankees losing yet another game (must see TV!) and the pathetic excuse for a new Headbanger’s Ball. Happened to switch over to the Ball during a commercial break, and nothing could have prepared me for what was being advertised.
Apparently, last week, Queensryche released… Operation: Mindcrime II. Yes, sequelitis has hit the record bin… eighteen years later. (Can that be right?)
Is there any way that this could be any good? I mean, any? Be on the lookout for Empire II: Even Quieter Lucidity sometime in the coming year.

Unrelated to this post, but your Three.. Extremes review, Miike isn’t for everyone, but I’d highly recommend checking out The Bird People in China. Easily his best film. Still Miike, but without all the baggage that turns most people off on him…

Yeah, I’ve heard that here and there. Added it to the queue, but probably won’t get to it anytime soon. Thanks.
Question for you: Have you seen both The Quiet Family and Happiness of the Katakuris?
I myself have only seen the “original”, never Miike’s version. Wondering how the two might compare.

Woah, woah, woah. I never realized that Happiness was a remake of The Quiet Family, mainly because I haven’t seen the former. That’s gotta change. Ji-woon Kim is a pretty solid director (A Bittersweet Life was in my top 10 of ‘05), even if he is hit and miss in the horror field (coincidently, he actually was one of the directors in the original Three..)
I have seen Happiness and it’s a pretty enjoyable film. It’s a rioteous blend of Miike humor and style. It’s part rock opera, part family comedy, part tragedy. It’s really original and really unique, but it also kind of tires as the movie goes on. Even still, it’s worth watching just for how strikingly fun and charming the first half is.
Though, I really didn’t know anything about it when I popped it in, so when the first musical number rolled out I was on the floor.

Queensryche is going to be here in October playing Mindcrime I & II in their entirety. I haven’t picked up the new disk but I probably will eventually. I saw them at a radio station once when I was picking up my free copy of Aerosmith’s Nine Lives the week before it came out.

So you knew about this?
Operation: Let’s Hope They Remember Us

I would have told you but the information was confidential at the time to avoid possible mind crimes.
Just put in Empire to listen to.

It’s just that kind of cover-up that got Sister Mary killed.
Manny Sucks April 10th, 2006 at 2:28 pm
I’m, um, building empire. Sister Mary had to be eliminated.
Sorry, not too good at Queensryche references.

Good, cuz that was the only one I had.
