Anyone else see the last two episodes of South Park, during which Family Guy dared show an image of the prophet Mohammed? Apparently, the readers of the AV club’s The Hater have, and they almost entirely missed the point.
The only poster thus far to get it is “laxcat”, and that post is a good way down the page. Everyone else overanalyzes and tries to convince others that one show is better than the other because of X, Y and/or Z. All the while forgetting the fact that the things they are comparing are entirely subjective.
Damn, and I thought that I needed to relax.
Speaking of relaxing, I’m off to enjoy a three-day weekend. Ciao.

I normally don’t watch South Park with any kind of active interest, but I will admit that this season has reminded me (and so many other people) why this once was and still is considered one of the best comedies on TV.
I don’t think the Cartoon Wars double were created so they could say something along the lines of, “look how better our show is than Family Guy”, they were just obviously pointing out the many faults that Family Guy has. And they’re perfectly right. 98% of the humor on Family Guy comes from jokes with interchangeable punchlines that have little to nothing to do with the ‘plot’.
The comparisons between the three shows are inevitable given that they’re pretty much the only nationally successful (ignoring Family Guy’s death/resurrection), prime-time half-hours of animation. I’ve always thought of The Simpsons as a sitcom that happens to be animated. Family Guy as an animated sketch show. And South Park as an animated half-hour of biting satire.
Simpsons’ has more heart, South Park has more teeth and Family Guy is the stand-up comic who just tells as many hit-and-miss jokes as he can during his set. They’re all good shows, all funny, but for very different reasons.

I still laugh when I even think of the strung-out Cookie Monster bit.
