Whirrrrrrrr…

Got myself a new wireless card for my PC yesterday, and was reminded again just how loud the %#@! fan inside that case is. I had to leave the room in order to talk on the phone, so I decided to do something about that.

Found this quieter fan while searching online, and I think that it’ll do the job. Only $15 shipped at Newegg, so I’ll be sure to grab myself one.

Only problem is, I’m just about to take off on vacation, and I don’t want the stupid thing to get delivered right after I leave, so it’ll have to wait until I get back. Damnit. Whatever in the heck happened to instant gratification?

Regarding the new wireless card, they didn’t have any Linksys in stock where I went, so I picked up a cheaper Netgear card. The downside is that the antenna in that pic there is just about actual size. It’s so small in fact, that my signal strength was at “None” last night, although the connection seemed fine.

Instant prediction: I forsee the rest of this week going very slowly, and next week flying by as if it never happened.

Random plug: Play Wimpout! I rediscovered the dice I bought in college just the other day, all that’s left now is to find the time to roll them.

Hey, at least it isn’t as gigantic as my heatsink/fan:

    Thing is a beast.

I was actually looking at those. Was afraid it wouldn’t fit, plus it’s a tad expensive for what I’m looking for.

This is what I have now, the Volcano 7. It’s listed there as 39dBA on top speed (which is how it always runs), and I think that’s still a highly conservative figure.

Yah, I’ve discovered that all sound estimates for PC hardware are lies. I even have a Lian Li PC6070 Silent Case and it’s still very audible. Then again, I have a whole lot of stuff going on in the inside, so it’s still understandable.

Once I head back up north in June and start working again, I think I may go for some watercooling…I’m anal about sound.
