Sony’s lost their minds.

And I thought I was loopy for buying the Xbox 360 at $400. Well, I was, but that’s besides the point.
Besides the 20/60G HDD size differential, the “cheaper” model comes without an HDMI port, no MemoryStick/SD/CompactFlash slots, and you also don’t get the built-in 802.11 b/g wireless.
I had zero plans for buying this thing anyways, but this is just ridiculous.

I had already decided that I’ll be getting the new Nintendo. I’ll probably get the PS3 eventually. I made a mistake of buying a PS2 right when it was released and there were so few games available for months and months afterward. I’m really looking forward to retro gaming on the big screen.

The Nintendo Wii E3 event is going on right now. It’ll be interesting to see the complete contrast between the two.
I tried to buy a PS2 when it came out, but had to stalk Amazon for days to get my hands on one, bundled with a bunch of crap. Eventually sold it in favor of Xbox Live. I don’t live near any of my friends anymore.

The more I hear about the Wii the more I want it. I haven’t been this excited about a console release since I traded in my Super Nintendo and all of my games to preorder the original Playstation. I’m glad I’m not too old to be this excited about video games.

Yeah, it does look like a good time. Seeing Miyamoto conduct an orchestra in a tux made me smile.
However, I’d still take a 360 version of Guitar Hero over anything anyone displayed yesterday.

The one thing that has me worried is that two of the classic games mentioned for XBox Live are SFII Hyper Fighting (is that the Turbo Champion Edition?) and Mortal Kombat. Those had better not be exclusive to the 360.
I haven’t been sold on Guitar Hero yet. Of course, I haven’t played it yet either. One month until I have free time again.
What the hell is Randy Johnson’s problem? And Aaron Small was NAILS last year and has an ERA over 14 this year. I wonder if the Yankees have a team shrink.

I’m not sure what edition of SFII it is. There are far too many to keep track of… I was always more of a MK guy myself. I just wish they’d stop announcing new Live Arcade games, and start releasing them. Gimme Paperboy! Now!
Johnson was terrible last night. (Is he hurt?) Which, of course, I loved. However, ol’ Georgie chose to point the blame at “the third baseman” after the game, which is almost as awesome as the errors A-Rod made.
Damon’s without a hit so far against the Sox, yet Alex Gonzalez gets a three run homer? That’s just bad karma. And it serves him right.

Yeah, that is the version of SFII I was thinking of. The last one before they added new characters in Super SFII. Mortal Kombat II was perhaps my favorite individual fighting game of all time. With MKIII they messed with the combo system and made it a button masher instead of a timing thing. Completely made irrelevant all of the hours I spent practicing the combos published in Gamepro.
I wonder how much these things are going to be priced. That list of features sounds pretty cool.
I think/hope it is a mental thing for Johnson that he can work through. And A-Rod knows he isn’t on top of his game right now. Being one game out is not too bad when all of the cylinders aren’t firing.

MKII is my favorite too. Everything past that has been overshadowed by its greatness. I got the last one, as it was playable on Live and had some extra game modes in it, but it wasn’t a very well thought out online system.
Now of course, SFII and MK will have all sorts of online features, so there’s no need to look for a “new” fighter anymore. Live Arcade will give me all I’ll ever need in that department.
The most expensive Live Arcade game out there is $20, and it’s the only one priced that high, Bankshot Billiards. (Why? I dunno.) All of the ones I bought were $10 each, with the one exception being Geometry Wars which was a slim $5.
Mussina vs. Schilling tonight. Don’t think we’ll have the same “broad score differential” problems this time around.

Wii is certainly interesting. It’s not High-Def by any means (its not supposed to be) but the graphics looks pretty decent. My main problem with it (besides the stupid name) is the controller. Certainly inventive, and I sure hope it helps fat kids slim down a bit, but I would not be able to use it for more than an hour at a time. This will literally make people “tired” of playing video games, let alone cramp up… remember the old mat controller for NES - used with Track and Field and such. What a bitch, and oh, so tiring.
I, myself, could not sit in front of the TV for too long waving my damn arms around, so whatever games they release for it had better be more entertaining than Nintendogs 2 and Puppet Orchestra Fever. But, being Nintendo, there probably won’t be any GTA or Saints Row-type games where you can cock your shotgun with the controller before (and after) shooting someone in the face.
The future of the Wii is uncertain, but if this doesn’t fold Nintendo, nothing will.
Just my $.02
