Been a pretty slow week coming off of the vacation, so I was susceptible to the call of “125 free MP3s!” from a site called eMusic.
Looking around at a few review websites, they all seemed to say the same things. It’s a service with a monthly subscription, the MP3s you download aren’t laden with DRM (a huge plus), and finally, that “mainstream artists” aren’t all that available. I signed up anyways, as that seems to be the only way that you can actually browse their library of “independent artists”.
Well, I’ve found pretty close to everything that I’ve searched for thus far, and I can’t wait to get home and actually start downloading tracks. Searching thus far has uncovered: Pixies, Frank Black, TMBG, Clutch, Dead Kennedys, Helmet, Fugazi, Bad Religion, DRI, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Dillinger Escape Plan, Danzig, Bad Brains, Tree, Sam Black Church… even local boys Rooftop Suicide Club make the cut, and I’m sure I’m just starting to scratch the surface here. Not every album from every artist is included, but there’s plenty to be had.
Whether or not the actual downloading is up to snuff is still to be seen, but I’m enjoying what I’ve seen so far. More later…

Does it have Johnny Damon’s cover of “I’m too Sexy” by Right Said Fred?

No, must be too mainstream.
There is a soundtrack album of sounds of the Bronx, with a track called “Yankee Stadium”.

No Monkees?
See if you can find Gang Green’s version of Voices Carry. It’s a good tune and it cracks me up.
Jebus! Is that really 20 years old?!?!? Gah!
