Finally, NESN HD

On July 18, HD MLB games from YES Network (Yankees) and FSN Southwest (Rangers HD games will be seen only in the Dallas DMA) will be available, as well as a continuous 24/7 HD feed from NESN HD (Red Sox).

In addition to the MLB games, DIRECTV will also carry NHL and NBA games that are televised on the RSNs when their seasons start in the fall.

Cool. Sox and Bruins are finally coming in HD to DirecTV. Of course, all of this requires a couple new pieces of MPEG4 equipment that I don’t have, but at least now there’s a reason to consider upgrading to it.

They’d have a new customer if they offered the YES network on the West Coast.

I think there’s some sort of plan (read: pay more money) that makes that possible, but if the Yanks ever played the Dodgers or something, that would be blacked out.

I’m not sure though, so don’t quote me on it. You’re probably better off with the online thing.

I tried out the digital cable MLB package and dropped it because they were only showing maybe 5 or 6 games a day. So, even if the Yankees weren’t blacked out there was a chance that their game wouldn’t be on. I went back to the online thing quickly.

I would pay more for the YES network as long as I got all of the games that weren’t blacked out. Sometimes I don’t like watching the Royals or Tigers wonderful regional coverage.
