Lights, Camera…

With our anniverary coming next month, and the kid just a couple after that, Laura and I decided that we should get ourselves a camcorder as our gift to each other. Neither of us has had any experience with one before, so went around asking local experts (i.e. friends who already have kids) what their feelings were about them.

I got some good responses, ranging from Sonys to Panasonics, and I researched all of the different models and configurations online, to try to make a sound decision. However, the field got narrowed dramatically last night, when Laura sent an email to local camera shop Converse Photo, asking them what they had available.

When Laura left her job at the bookstore, she was given some lovely parting gifts, one being a $300 gift certificate to Converse. When the response from them was that they didn’t normally carry camcorders, but could order us anything from Canon’s product line, the answer was simple, the Elura 100.

So, while I might not be using it to shoot the next great indie film, I think it’ll work nicely. Can’t wait to start practicing with it and getting in a groove with iMovie and iDVD.

Obligatory minibosses shout out: The ‘bosses played the Penny Arcade Expo. Pics at link. Haven’t been able to access their website for a while though. Perhaps their fame is too much for their server.

That should be a lot of fun. Sounds like a pretty good camera or at least a lot better than the ones they were comparing it to. And don’t discount your indie film success yet. Judging by My Date with Drew you only need a good hook and you’re set. I think you want to avoid anything that resembles Tarnation though.

Yes, Tarnation would be difficult. I think the drugs would be far more expensive than the camera, and I don’t even think we have a gift certificate for that.

Drew looks interesting. Added to queue. :)

The drugs? The therapy would put you in the poor house!

I haven’t seen My Date with Drew yet so my mentioning it in no way constitutes a recommendation. It has a very interesting story behind it so that is why I added it to my queue and left it there even after a friend of mine blasted it.

I’m pissed HBO cancelled Deadwood. That I will recommend to you again.

    Disclaimer noted.

How many seasons did Deadwood run? I’m not a fan, but I’m surprised it’s gone, especially if Carnivale was allowed clemency.

3 seasons and they are going to do two 2-hour episodes next year. They just got rid of a large antagonist but it feels like there is so much more story to tell. And the real crime is that it keeps getting better and better.

Thanks for keeping me up to date since I am usually a day behind your blog!!

The thing I found most fascinating when I got my new video camera was how quickly my hard drives began to fill up. That’s when a terabyte began to look small to me! Keep that in mind.

What, have you no RSS reader? ;) Bloglines is pretty low maintenance…

I’ve been thinking about perhaps getting an external HDD. The iMac, where I will be doing all of the video work, has about 90GB free right now. I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

I’m sorry! I have too much to handle on my own and now I need a secretary.

I reeeeaaalllly need a secretary…or I’m gonna crack! An Administrative Assistant? WTF do they call em now? Screw it…I get so much email I’m waiting for the new robot to come along and take my place.

    Seen any petabytes lately?
