I’ve been increasingly concerned with backup systems lately, both at the office and at home, and ran across this free service online.
After installing a small program on your computer, you can select up to 2GB of data to encrypt and upload to their servers. If you need more space, you can pay for it, or you can refer people. Each person who signs up gets both you and them 256MB more. It can be configured to back up at certain scheduled times, or anytime the machine is idle. It even has a bandwidth throttle.
It’s not going to cover an entire HDD, but I figure it’s good for website backups, works in progress, that kind of thing. I’ll probably share the space between my PC at home, and some files that I don’t want to lose on my PC in the office as well. They don’t have a Mac client yet, but I’ll certainly be able to use one if they do.
If you wanna try it, use the link below to sign up. (That way, we’ll both get that extra 256MB.)

That’s not a bad idea for a somewhat distributed backup system. Be curious to know what their backup system is.

I was curious to that myself. There’s no behind the scenes description of the works there at all.
Perhaps they’ll say more when it leaves beta (not that anything ever does these days)…
Edit: There’s a little bit more info in this interview.

Wow, that guy’s a genius, eh? He figured that out all by himself?
Impressive.

Bitter much? At least you have the NFL season around the corner.
John August 31st, 2006 at 6:41 pm
Actually, not so much. I haven’t been that “good” of a fan this season. Haven’t watched an entire game in who knows how long. All I do these days is check the web every morning to see how much we lost by.
We practically traded away our starter right before the game tonight. Don’t get much more of a clear sign that the season’s over than that. Oh, and getting swept series after series probably doesn’t help either.
I still hope the Yankees choke, but other than that…
NFL is promising in that I’ll have two fantasy leagues to keep track of. Other than that, I won’t watch a lot of football either.

Last half day of summer, right?
You’ll be the one exception to the rule of fantasy football players if you don’t watch a lot of football. That is why I stayed away. I’ve seen people who don’t even watch football become the most stat crazed maniacs possible.

It is. Worked it from home tho, as I just got home from the dentist. The weekend has begun.
My regular league is online and in the new one I’m just joining, a friend hosts (have to go to a live draft on Monday). After that, the stats tell you all you need to know without having to watch the games. I find football very hard to watch by myself, which is how it usually turns out.
