After noticing that I had a headlight out yesterday, I went to the auto parts store for a replacement. Got a pleasant surprise when it only rang up at $8, looking no more than a beefed-up Christmas light.
Then came the installation. The manual made it look easy, just pop out the old one, plug in the new, but it’s never that easy, is it? I had to move the battery out of the way to get access, and the bolt that held it in place was rusted tight. The connection to the light itself, completely stuck in place. I had to give up and plan for another attempt this weekend.
I bought this car brand new in January of 2005. That’s just over two years, and the thing is already rusting out? Does this happen in other parts of the country, or just here, where salt is liberally applied to the roads for almost a third of the year? Makes me angry, and it also makes me want to get the hell out.
But where would I go? What would I do? It’s not enough stress to find a new place, but I’d also need to find a new job, and be sure to add on top of all of that the fact that we have little Henry in tow. My head hurts just thinking about it. But imagining a better climate, shorter commute… these things taunt me endlessly.
No, moving doesn’t really seem to be an option, and there’s not all that much I can do about it. So you’ll have to excuse me while I stew a bit.

You could move to Boston. Then you won’t need a car at all. You can have my place. Then I can go somewhere else.
Deal?

Why, that sounds like a capital suggestion!
After all, I’ve heard such great things about your place.

Rust is a common problem here too. Salt water air and what not. Commutes tend to suck too.
You should get in on AZ while the gettin’ is still good. Though, from what I hear, commutes can be long as well.
Review some movies dammit.

OK, California’s out.
My father has a 1.5 hour commute each way into Phoenix. Then again, he plans on retiring in a couple of years.
In order to review movies, I first need to watch them. But to do that, I need free time. The only movie I’ve seen in the last few months is one that I’m not at liberty to discuss publicly.

I don’t think it helps that you live on salt water end of the Taunton river.

No, probably not.
