Yankees Sign Old Man

Big news this weekend was that the Yankees signed Roger Clemens for the rest of the year.

From the article:

Clemens… will be paid about $18.5 million for four months of work, or more than $4.5 million a month. The Yankees also will be paying a 40 percent luxury tax on the salary, which drives up the monthly tab to more than $6.3 million a month. Assuming Clemens takes a regular turn, that computes to more than $1 million a start.

Wow. That’ll buy a lot of early-bird specials. All kidding aside, Red Sox/Yankees is always absurdly fun, and adding Clemens certainly isn’t going to hurt. Three cheers for the AL East!

We need to keep Pavano more than a hundred miles away from Clemens at all times. With the way things are going, Clemens will get his first pitch batted back at him, take it off his wrist, and be out for the rest of the season. I say we bring Al Leiter out of the booth and have him pitch to the first batter every game. He can give a home run up each time for all I care as long as we can bring in a healthy “reliever” after that.

Don’t worry, I think Clemens plans to spend his off days back in Texas, only catching up with the team when it’s his turn in the rotation. That ought to put some good miles between him and Calamity Carl.

I hear bad calls and long balls were the order of the night vs the Mariners. I was actually watching some of that game, but then reminded myself who was playing and went to do something else.

    One bad call in particular.
