Came upon this interesting story this morning. It would appear as though someone embedded a link to a porn site on my hometown’s website, resulting in the site being taken down indefinitely.
Paranoia about the incident seems be running wild. Selectmen Chairwoman Eleanor Gagnon was quoted as saying “We will only bring the town Web site back when we know there is protection from the town so that this kind of intrusion can never happen again.”
Protection from the town? Is Somerset looking to cannibalize itself? Apparently so, as she also added “This is the kind of atmosphere that is prevalent in Somerset these days. It’s like a seek and destroy.”
Seek and destroy? Hmm, I don’t live all that far from Town Hall, but perhaps I should board up my windows anyways. You know, just in case.
So what did the town do to fix this horrible horrible situation? The called up the administrators of the site, and Town Administrator John McAuliffe proceeded to have a “heated conversation” that “got so out of hand that the (site admins) have filed a complaint against McAuliffe for his handling of the episode.”
Classy! Note to self: Don’t bother taking on any state/local websites. Also, be very wary the next time you see Chairwoman Gagnon or Town Admin McAuliffe. They’re quite likely to overreact.

Have Lite Brites been outlawed in your state yet?

No, I believe that ban currently applies only to Suffolk County.

Maybe your city councilors are from Watertown?
Or maybe yours is only a Somerset Wide Web?

We are not yet aware of ip addresses originating from outside our own zipcode.

I think it’s funny that your selectman is named Lorne Lawless. A couple other “less”es come to mind… thoughtless, mindless, clueless. oh, pointless!

Would be even funnier if I hadn’t just voted for him.
Actually, the article made him out as the most level-headed of the group, so I’ll just work with that for now.
