The “Next Big Thing” with gaming appears to be the ability to transform an in-game piece of footage into something that the whole world can view online. While sharing clips was possible on games such as Burnout Revenge, those clips were only visible to other people who actually owned the game. No longer will people need to have a video capture card to show off their skills.
For example, check out this footage of “me” flipping into a couple grinds in the new game Skate. This footage was taken from the demo, as I haven’t gotten off of my overworked ass to actually pick the game up yet. Still, even with a free demo, I was able to capture the clip, change the camera angles (etc.) and upload it for the world to see.
This weeks big new (i.e. excessively over hyped) game, Halo 3, supposedly also has this feature, where you can upload your favorite skirmishes for all to see. It’s all really quite impressive, and I’m excited to see what else we’ll be able to do now that broadband Internet and video gaming are truly coming together.
