Just What I Needed

The last week has been a trying one. Laura and Henry away, lots of extra commuting and long, long hours getting the new office open, daily battles with the phone company to get my PRI installed. I was just shy of total meltdown yesterday.

But the thing that brought me back? Guitar Hero III. I actually didn’t plan on buying this iteration of the series until I was able to find it on the used racks. I was really turned off by the way that they priced extra downloadable songs for GHII, and with Rock Band coming out just two weeks from today, why play with just guitar when you can have drums and singing too?

An online merchant had a blowout sale, and I caved. Jaymz did too, and I’m so glad we did. With GHII, we both had to be in the same physical location to play together, thanks to the lack of any online functionality. This time around, they fixed their past wrongs and allowed two player co-op over Xbox Live. The difference is amazing.

The bands represented are surprisingly good. Weezer, Dead Kennedys, Metallica, Slayer, the list goes on and on. They even threw some Social D, although the song they picked, “Story of My Life”, is a bit too repetitive and long for a game like this. If I had to pick, I’d say my current favorite is Slipknot’s “Before I Forget“. I’m not much of a Slipknot fan—they tend to only have one good song per album—but this song is a blast to play along with.

With the family flying back early, tomorrow instead of Saturday, I’m going to spend tonight playing some more, with the sound system turned up nice and loud. Don’t know when the chance will come ’round again. \m/

I believe the score for Candyman II: Farewell to the Flesh is an unlockable bonus song.
